DEDHAM

The village of Dedham is situated on the River Stour in north-east Essex, England.  It lies in the heart of Dedham Vale, an area designated as being of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and immortalised in many of the paintings by John Constable RA, one of Britain’s best known artists.   Another famous artist, Sir Alfred Munnings RA,  was a Dedham resident for many years.  His former home, Castle House in Castle Hill, now serves as a museum

It is one mile from the A12 trunk road, and four miles from Manningtree Station, which enjoys a 65-minute train service to London, Liverpool Street.  The village is connected with Colchester by a regular bus service (80-80A & 81-81A) operated by Panther Travel, (as of March 2016).  On Sundays the village is served by the 102 service, Colchester to Harwich.

The village possesses a wealth of interesting architecture, and many of the buildings date back some 500 years to the height of the wool trade, on which the prosperity of the village was founded.  Of particular note is St Mary's Church, Dedham Parish Church.

Dedham boasts one of the most successful primary schools in the country and the village is home to a number of Sports Clubs.  The village is served in the main by two GP practices, Ardleigh Surgery and the Constable Country Medical Practice.  Use the links in the Local Links section for more information about the village and its facilities.
